We are proud to introduce the inaugural release of the 2013 Secret Rows Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon and 2014 Secret Rows Ranch Sauvignon Blanc from our estate grown fruit on the eastern slopes of Howell Mountain. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon vines were planted in the early 2000s and our Secret Clone™ Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted in the mid- 1990s. Each block of the vineyard is painstakingly paired to specific varietals and clones based on its individual soil type and exposure. Throughout winemaker Mitch Cosentino's twenty plus years experience with the vineyard he has been intimately involved with each wine produced from the vine to the bottle and beyond. He has long championed the Secret Clone™ of Cabernet Sauvignon for its individual character and all it adds to the finished wine. The prominent character of the Secret Clone™ is reminiscent of the iconic Bolgheri region of western Tuscany, famed for its distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon based wines, although its specific origin cannot be precisely defined. In the mid-1990s Mitch worked closely with France's Tonnellerie Vernou on the design of French Oak barrels specifically tailored to the spirit of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. These very rare barrels contribute greatly to the texture and aromatic profile of the grape and terroir while minimizing the often intrusive aromatics and flavors expressive of the oak itself.
“The 2013 vintage in Napa Valley was the second in a string of three outstanding vintages that provided the rare combination of superb quality and larger than normal yields. The depth and texture of our inaugural Cabernet Sauvignon release is emblematic of the vineyard's character and our Secret Clone™ combined with the expertise I have been fortunate to develop during my long history with the fruit. The deep ruby color is an indicator of the freshness, complexity and balance yet to come. The scent of red berries and pomegranate coalesce around earthy tones and floral notes of dried lavender on the nose. The entry on the palate is silky and highlighted by a rich and elegant mouthfeel exhibiting layers of red berries and red current accented by a dash of black cherry. The finish is long and complex carrying through on the flavors of the mid-palate accompanied by a generous impression of finely grained tannin. ”

“Napa Valley's 2014 vintage is the third in that memorable string of three outstanding vintages, and its unique quality is expressed in this offering of Sauvignon Blanc that is so highly regarded from our vineyard. Leaning on my experience in the vineyard and past successes, I chose to blend in 11% of our estate grown Semillon for added complexity with unique flavor and textural components. Your first impression is the brilliant gold color accenting the youth, purity and appeal of the wine. There is a slight varietal hint of fresh herbs and spice on the nose accented by the scent of pink grapefruit and a touch of dried rose petals. On the palate we are treated to a bright cacophony of lime and other fresh citrus coupled with a distinct oyster shell minerality and a touch of white peach for richness. The opulent texture of the palate carries forward to the long and layered finish accented by balanced acidity leaving you wanting for another glass. ”
